Everyone faces stress and anxiety, but no one has to deal with it alone
Dear university community,
As some may know, a student died on campus earlier this week. Our hearts go out to family, friends and others who knew this student. We understand that people want information in times of uncertainty, but the loss of family is of the utmost importance and we ask everyone to respect their privacy around the details of the death.
The death of a student is a tragedy that affects members of our university community in various ways. Together with the Dean of Students, the Wellness Center’s Stress Management and Response (SMART) team immediately contacts friends, faculty, organization leaders and other affected students, faculty and staff. after a loss like this.
Unfortunately, this most recent loss has resulted in inaccurate information being shared about the resources available on campus for students during times of stress and throughout the year.
We are here to help
The Wellness Center offers 24/7 in-person and telehealth services. There is NO waiting for services. You can come or call 856-256-4333 to make an appointment for an initial consultation which will be received according to the urgency.

After normal Wellness Center hours, you can reach an emergency counselor in the following ways:

Non Rowan options:
Crisis text line (anytime in emotional pain or in need of support): text 741741. You can just say “hello” to start the conversation. See their website for more details.

LGBTQ Trevor Lifeline: 1-866-488-7386
If you identify as a youth of color, you can text the word STEVE to 741741 to connect with a qualified crisis counselor.
If you identify as a Muslim, you can text the word SALAM to 741741 or 1-855-95-AMALA to connect with a qualified crisis counselor.
If it is an emergency, dial 911.
Consulting Services at Rowan
For non-emergency situations, there are many options:
Therapy / Counseling: You can find a list of services on the Counseling & Psychological Services website. Individual and group therapies are available. If you do NOT want to use your family’s insurance plan for this, let the staff know and they will suggest alternatives.
Let’s Talk Program: If you are not sure whether counseling is right for you, you can make an appointment for an informal consultation through the Let’s Talk program. The program allows you to meet with a Wellness Center professional so that they can help you determine what type of counseling or other resource would be best suited to your situation. If you are interested, please schedule an appointment yourself via the online wellness link (OWL). You will receive an email with a link to register remotely. Hours are Mondays, 2-4; Tuesdays, 10-12; Wednesdays, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, 10-12; Fridays, 12-2.
U Good FAM?: This network for promoting the mental health and well-being of students of color organizes monthly dialogues for students and provides contacts for students seeking guidance and advice. Check the Office of Social Justice, Inclusion and Conflict Resolution calendar for meeting dates.
Other Rowan resources:
Mental health accommodations: You can get accommodations through Accessibility Services for mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. Accommodation may include accommodating absences or extended deadlines for assignments; a letter of accommodation encourages teachers to meet your needs. Coaching for success: If you’re feeling overwhelmed with juggling school and life, this might be a great option. A coach can help you develop strategies and a plan to get the job done while meeting your personal goals and broader wellness needs. Visit the Success Coaching website to learn more and make an appointment.
Student Resilience Coordinators: You can get in touch with a member of University staff who can help you navigate University resources, create a roadmap for overcoming obstacles to your success, or just start a conversation to help you. to deal with the problems. To get in touch with a Student Resilience Coordinator, students can contact the Vice President of Student Life / Dean of Students (Savitz 339, [email protected]).
Stress and Anxiety Student Support Group: This group meets a few times a month, and you can find events by logging into ProfLink, then searching for Stress & Anxiety. The goal is to chat with the Healthy Campus Initiatives student interns, to let off steam and learn some strategies, BUT this group is not therapy, just a place to talk to other students.
Active spirits: This student organization promotes mental health awareness and organizes events. It’s a great group to get involved with. Find information about ProfLink.
Relax and chat: Rowan Healthy Campus Initiatives offers this opportunity every Friday from 11am to noon to just hang out, chat and play games with student interns. You can find events by logging into ProfLink and then searching for Chill and Chat.
Shreiber pet therapy program: If you are a dog lover, visiting one of Rowan’s therapy dogs can be soothing and a nice break from homework and other concerns. The center offers virtual and in-person meetings; you can plan and view the schedule on their website.
Other non Rowan options / resources:
Online peer support: TogetherAll is an online mental health service that provides people with access to 24/7 community and professional support. Through TogetherAll, Rowan students can access FREE 24/7 online support, connect with others who are going through similar struggles, and support each other through their shared lived experiences with stress, anxiety, isolation and other common mental health issues. Application for stress, anxiety and sleep:
Insight Timer is a free app that offers soothing music and sound for sleep, guided meditation, and engaging mindfulness talks.
The Calm app offers guided meditation for relaxation and sleep. The app is free, with in-app purchases available.
The Dare app offers audio procedures to help you overcome anxiety. The download is free with both free content and paid / subscription content.
The Shine app provides opportunities for daily self-care through meditation, reflection and connection with a community. This app was founded by women from the BIPOC community seeking in particular to support the well-being of marginalized groups.
The Breathwrk app (iPhone only) offers free guided breathing exercises, which can help with anxiety and sleep issues.
