Victoria Records Community Case Linked to NSW Outbreak

Victoria has registered a new community case of Covid-19 which has been linked to the outbreak in New South Wales.

Victoria’s acting prime minister James Merlino said the new case emerged late Thursday morning.

“A man in his sixties arrived from Melbourne to Sydney, was tested and returned positive this morning,” he told reporters.

Merlino said the man was being questioned and a full public health response was underway.

The man flew to Melbourne on Sunday evening and started showing symptoms around 10 p.m. Tuesday, Victoria’s Health Minister Martin Foley told reporters.

The man was tested on Wednesday, the health service being informed Thursday morning of the positive result.

“He is currently feeling unwell and is being supported by the public health team,” Foley said.

“The public health team moved quickly to find this information, we have already established their main close contacts and they are all undergoing testing.”

Foley said that given the Delta Variant worry patterns spreading around Sydney, the Victoria government was taking a “conservative approach” and working on the basis that it was the same tension.

Another local case was recorded earlier today in Victoria, a known primary close contact linked to the Kings Park apartment complex.

This person was quarantined throughout their contagious period.

The state has also recorded three cases acquired abroad, all in hotel quarantine.
