DeRidder, LA (KPLC) – Some people collect coins and some may collect comics, but a local collects dolls.
She’s a doll collector and her name is Estella Scott. Some describe her as a mainstay of the DeRidder community, and at her house you’ll find several of her different collections, but the one that stands out the most is her doll collection.
“My name is Mawmaw Scott and I love it. I love being called Mawmaw Scott. It makes me feel necessary and if you want to be treated with a hangover you have to go out and work, ”Scott said.
She is the matriarch of her great loving family: six children, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
“I love people,” Scott said. “I love people, I love them.”
She has served people for years in various roles in her community, including city council, the Louisiana Doll Festival board of directors, and DeRidder’s Head Start program director, to name a few.
Not only does she collect dolls but also clowns and angels, but she has been collecting dolls for about 30 years.
“At home, I have 198 dolls of all nationalities, which you can see here. And at any time if you want to come and see them. All you have to do is give me a call. I love to show off my dolls, ”Scott said.
Mawmaw Scott said the majority of his doll collection was donated to him.
“I sit and look at my dolls and I say, well, this person gave me this. And then this person gave me that. Oh yeah, yeah, I remember that one gave me that, ”Scott said looking at his dolls.
Her collection is just one of the many things that keep her spirit so lofty.
“My motto is I jump but don’t stop and I can do anything through Christ who strengthens me,” Scott said.
