Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Saturday that police had given former forestry minister and rebel MP Sanjay Rathod a clean hand in the suicide case of TikTok star Pooja Chavan.
Shinde was speaking to the Maharashtra Sadan media in New Delhi.
When asked if Rathod, who has been indicted in the suicide case, will be considered in the next expansion of the Cabinet, Shinde said: “The police have given Rathod a good word.” During the recent rebellion within the Sena, Rathod sided with the Shinde faction.
MP Sena from Digras Assembly Constituency in Yavatmal, Rathod was Minister of Forests in the former government of Maha Vikas Aghadi.
He had resigned as minister on February 28, 2021, after going under the scanner of Chavan’s death on February 7.
There were allegations that Rathod had a relationship with Chavan, both of whom hail from the Banjara tribal community.
Chavan had come to Pune for an educational course. She is suspected of having committed suicide by jumping from the first floor of her building.
Later, her alleged photographs with Rathod and around 12 audio clips surfaced, which went viral on social media.
Then the opposition BJP, led by current Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, was front and center in demanding Rathod’s arrest.
