Outdoor musical event in Saanich raises over $ 2,000 for food projects
Profits are split between Rainbow Kitchen and Living Edge feeders for those in need of Greater Victoria
An outdoor fundraising concert on August 30 outside Prospect Lake Hall in Saanich raised over $ 2,000 in donations for Rainbow Kitchen and Living Edge.
Profits were shared between the two organizations, both of which are dedicated to feeding and serving the food insecure communities of Greater Victoria.
The event saw three different bands perform and feature genres such as swing classics, jazz, and rock and roll. âPeople were tapping their feet and smiling, there’s a certain freedom in that because people are coming back to life,â said Deborah Price, Living Edge administrative assistant and co-organizer of the event.
Rainbow Kitchen is a family run establishment that provides meals to the community, while Living Edge is a group that provides groceries each week to those in need.
The focus on providing fresh food for seven free neighborhood food markets in Greater Victoria is important to Living Edge, Price said. A market operates in some neighborhoods every day except Sunday.
âWe get perfectly good food that would otherwise end up wasted by various donors, and so we meet a different kind of market, because they can get whatever is in season and whatever we have a plethora of,â he said. she declared.
