Volunteers needed for the Senior Resource Center
The Commission on Aging is looking for volunteers to staff the Galt Senior Resource Center, which opens April 4. The commission is looking for people who can operate a computer and are willing to answer seniors’ questions in person, over the phone, on social media or by email.
Volunteer slots are available in increments of two hours up to four hours, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., excluding public holidays. The volunteers will be trained and will be able to contact the members of the commission in case of questions.

GTC looking for volunteers
The Galt Teen Center is looking for volunteers to help with various events, fundraising and overseeing the center. “There are so many ways to volunteer,” says GTC. “Help us build a better place for our teens!” For more information, email [email protected]com.
Chapter Cosumnes DAR
accept new members
The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently opened their Rio Cosumnes chapter in the Elk Grove community and are accepting new members.
DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. The members are all direct descendants of those who supported the cause of independence during the Revolutionary War.

Municipal assistance after hours
After-hours assistance is available through Galt’s Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments. For public works, call the Galt Police Department non-emergency line at 209-366-7000. The Parks Maintenance Division is available only for scheduled assistance in the field or in the use of facilities, Monday through Friday, 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Call 209-810-0293.
The library offers old
adult computer time
In conjunction with the Galt Commission on Aging, the Galt-Marian O. Lawrence Library will set a set time for older adults to use its computers, upon request. People 65 and older who wish to request computer time can call the library at 916-264-2920. The staff will help set up the computer or tablet. The library is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is located at 1000 Caroline Ave.
Free COVID test
Thursday – Saturday
Free COVID-19 tests are available every Thursday from 7 a.m. to noon, Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chabolla Community Center, 600 Chabolla Avenue in Galt. Thursday tests accept walk-ins, but due to high demand the line may be closed before noon. Friday and Saturday tests are by appointment only. Recycle household batteries
Galt residents can recycle their household batteries in the green recycling bin located at the main entrance of the Galt Police Department. The green bin is for household dry cell batteries.

Square dance class on Monday
The Diamond Dancers Square Dance Club organizes social classes in square dancing in Galt. Classes are open to all ages and are held Mondays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Valley Oaks Grange Hall. Classes are formatted for flexibility, and students can learn many square dance calls in about three months. The Valley Oaks Grange Hall is located at 347 Fifth Street. First Thursdays with the City Manager
Galt City Manager Lorenzo Hines opens his office hours to meet one-on-one with Galt residents. On the first Thursday of every month, citizens will have the opportunity to privately discuss their concerns, ask questions and gather feedback directly from the City Manager. Meetings will take place via Zoom and will be limited to 20 minutes per meeting. Call the Galt City offices to schedule an appointment at 209-366-7130.
Name your neighbor
The Galt Beautification Committee asks you to “name your neighbor”. Has your neighbor recently completed a garden project? Does your neighbor have the prettiest flowers in town or the prettiest garden? The Galt beautification committee wants to know. Nar Anon Family
Narcotics Anonymous (Nar-Anon) family group meetings for friends and family members struggling with addiction are held locally on a weekly basis, Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the church Galt United Methodist, 571 C Street in Galt.
Sunshine Food Pantry is a food pantry that helps supply local residents. Canned food and dry non-perishable items collections are received at The United Methodist Church, 571 C Street in Galt; call to make an appointment for donations, 209-745-4133.
The Food Cupboard is open the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at The United Methodist Church.
The Chayim is looking for volunteers
The Chayim of Galt, 400 Fourth Street, Suite 160, is looking for volunteers. Special help is needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for its weekly sidewalk sale; however, volunteers for all shifts are required.
The Chayim is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm; Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; the first three Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and some Friday evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 209-744-1143 for more information.
