Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police detectives have recovered 12 high-end music systems stolen from expensive cars by three members of an interstate gang involved in a series of thefts across the state.
Police in Goa dismantled the gang last month and handed over custody of the thieves to their Bhayandar counterparts for further investigation.
The trio identified as Jubeir Rais Ahmed (31), Jagannath Ramnath Sharma (46) and Pradip Rawal Nath Gurav (21), all residents of Nallasopara and Kolhapur in Maharashtra, were apprehended by the police station of the Panaji city.
After securing custody of the trio, a team led by API-Vijay Naik and staff-Pradip Gawli under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector-MB Patil scanned Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in and around crime scenes and possible escape routes and determined their involvement in 12 car radio theft cases in their jurisdiction.
The team was also successful in recovering the entire stolen music system from the possession of the accused which had been reserved under the relevant sections of the IPC.
While Jubeir worked as a plaster of Paris decorator (PoP), his accomplices were employed as drivers, police said.
In recent months, gang members have been implicated in a series of auto stereo theft cases in Goa, Mira-Bhayandar and Mumbai.
The trio were only targeting high-end, expensive car stereo systems that fetched good prices on the gray market.
In another similar action, the Criminal Branch Unit (Zone I) of the MBVV Police arrested a person identified as Rupesh D’mello, a resident of Vasai, for stealing bicycles and music systems from cars in Mira Road, Thane, Kalyan and Mumbai. .
Further investigations were ongoing in both cases.
