Måneskin will appear at Eurovision 2023 if it is ‘free’

Maneskin said they hoped to participate Eurovision 2023 if they are “free”.

The Italian group won the competition two years ago and back to this year’s event to give their single “Supermodel” its live debut.

Speaking in a new interview, frontman Damiano David said NME as part of the In Conversation series, that they would like to return to competition which will take place in Liverpool next year and says he will always hold a special place in their hearts.

“We were never afraid of the Eurovision label,” admits David. “For us, Eurovision was never the goal – it was just a way to achieve our goals. A lot of artists make huge mistakes when they go to these TV shows with just one song. They’re creating an entire image for the TV show, so when it’s over, they have next to nothing to share with the fans. We were lucky because we already had two albums and an EP. Once the show finished, people could listen to something and see that we already had five years of career and touring. It was the sliding door for us.

He adds: “We were never afraid to be ‘a Eurovision artist’ forever. We knew it was going to change our lives. We are happy and we will always remember Eurovision as one of the main milestones in our career.”

The group also discussed their recently announced the third album ‘RUSH!’ in the interview, mentioning in particular the inspiration they drew for the project Radiohead.

Elsewhere, David commented on accusations of censorship surrounding the group’s performance at the MTV VMAs in August.

‘RUSH!’ is the sequel to ‘Teatro D’ira: Vol. I’ and ‘Il Ballo Della Vita’ from 2018 and is set to be released on January 20, 2023. Måneskin will play London’s O2 a few months later on May 8, 2023.
