Free gas, discount for mothers before Mother’s Day

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Ahead of this Mother’s Day weekend, several organizations have organized a giveaway to give back to mums in Birmingham.

Cars lined up on May 5, 2022 outside the Five Points West Mobile gas station on Bessemer Road.

Jefferson County Commissioner Sheila Tyson partnered with More than Conquerors Faith Church, Virtue Inc., Birmingham Urban League and Black Women’s Roundtable for the giveaway.

The event was called Au service des mères à la gare.

The first 200 moms got free gas.

“It’s Mother’s Day. Women work 365 days a year, 24/7. So it’s just one day that we’re trying to give them some relief,” said Tyson.

They also gave out gift cards for oil changes and car washes, free food, gift bags, Bibles, voter registration and music.

“I am a woman of faith from a home of faith, and we used to celebrate mothers inside the church. But to be able to come out of the four walls, speak up and serve the city at a time when people are really hurting and in need,” said Deidre Green of More than Conquerors Faith Church.
