510 Day, Bachata by the Basin and Town Up Tuesday music fest

It’s hard to believe we’re already in the second week of May. Blink and before you know it summer will be upon us and hopefully bring warmer weather.

All of the events we offer this week are outdoors, so be sure to bring extra layers in case it gets cold. (Saturday should be the hottest day of the week.)

If you’ve been out and socialized with friends and strangers, don’t forget to get tested. We continue to update our COVID test guide.

Do you know of an event that should be featured? Email me at: [email protected]

Since 2016, the people of Oakland have come together on May 10 to celebrate “510 days”– an unofficial holiday established to honor Oakland culture and the people who make it thrive. Until the pandemic forced the block party to go virtual in 2020, it was held at Lake Merritt across from the Cleveland Cascade Staircase on Lakeshore Avenue. Last year’s event was partly virtual and included a caravan of cars. This year’s event, the seventh annual, will once again be held entirely in person after a two-year hiatus. There will be performances by musician Kev Choice, lawn dancers, and more. Davey D, DJ Black and DJ Styles will be behind One’s and Two’s. Interactive booths will be spread throughout the event to facilitate discussions about travel, school closures, public lands and other issues affecting Oakland residents.

Tuesday, May 10, 3-9 p.m., free admission, Lakeshore Avenue across from the Cleveland Cascades, extending to the Pergola
